Our events have raised funds to build a sports pitch, a science lab, a 3-D Printer, art supplies, gardening equipment and more, all of which have made a huge difference to our children's love of learning. We are now focusing on raising funds to expand outdoor learning and environmental activism.
The Friends' first big fund-raising goal was to put an all-weather sports pitch in the playground. It's a vital resource for PE classes, camps, and of course playtime.
We're very proud of our role in raising funds for the school's Science Lab, which was built in the spring of 2018. It's the only science in lab in a primary school in Westminster, and one of few in the country, making it a very unique resource. But mostly it's special because of how excited the children are to have their science lessons there.
Funded in the 2019 Summer Term, the 3-D printer is bringing the latest technology to our children's imagination.
Every class at Barrow Hill has its own reading lounge where students can nestle into one of the comfy sofas and bean bags with a book or magazine from amongst a great collection on their shelves. In 2019, the Friends funded new bean bags.
Our Year 6 students go to Sayers Croft for a week of outdoor learning and team building, which they all say is the most amazing experience. To make the trip more affordable for all families, the Friends of Barrow Hill pay for the coaches taking them to and from the center.
In 2018, the Friends funded gardening equipment for a special activity group in the school.
The Friends host breakfast every day of the week that our Year 6 students take their SATS exams in May. Most of the food is donated through our generous partners at Tesco and Gail's, but the Friends' also contribute a bit for extra berries and croissants to send the students off to their exams with smiling faces and bellies.
